Neither is automatically better. Classical piano can appeal to learners who enjoy written repertoire, technique and musical interpretation. Pop piano may suit those who want to play familiar songs, explore chords or accompany melodies.Your choice should reflect the music you enjoy and the skills you want to develop. You can discuss your preferences with your teacher before deciding on a learning direction.

Yes. Students who wish to take graded examinations receive structured preparation based on the latest ABRSM or Trinity syllabus. We also welcome students who prefer to learn without examinations.

No, examinations are optional. You can learn purely for leisure or work towards graded examinations if you prefer a structured goal. Let us know which you prefer and we can recommend a suitable programme for you.

Both digital and acoustic pianos are suitable for learning. Digital pianos are generally more affordable, require less maintenance and allow headphone practice. Acoustic pianos offer a more natural touch and richer resonance. If your budget allows, an acoustic piano is worth considering. Otherwise, a good-quality digital piano with weighted keys is also a suitable choice for beginners.

Practice time depends on age, experience and goals. Young beginners may start with 5–10 minutes per session, while primary school students can gradually work towards 15–30 minutes daily. Adult beginners may start with 10–15 minutes a day and increase their practice time as they become more comfortable. Consistent, focused practice is more beneficial than simply spending longer at the piano

Beginners may learn simple pieces within a few months, while developing fluency, technique and music-reading skills takes longer. Progress depends on practice consistency, lesson quality and individual goals. Building strong foundations helps students progress with greater confidence to play songs independently in future.

Both are excellent choices. Piano helps students understand notes, harmony and music theory visually, while the violin develops listening skills, coordination and pitch awareness. The best choice depends on you interest, readiness and goals. A trial lesson can help you discover which instrument suits you best.

Sight-reading requires students to recognise notes, rhythms and patterns while playing unfamiliar music. Difficulties may arise when they rely heavily on memorisation or practise only familiar pieces. Short, regular sight-reading exercises using music at an appropriate level can help improve fluency and confidence.

Memorisation can improve familiarity, concentration and performance confidence, but it should complement music reading rather than replace it. Students should understand the notes, rhythm and structure of a piece so they can perform confidently without relying entirely on memory.

Learning piano does not have to mean spending hours practising every day.Start with manageable, focused practice sessions and build a routine that works around your commitments. Even 10–15 minutes can be a useful starting point for some beginners, depending on the material being learnt.Your teacher can help you identify what to practise between lessons so that your learning remains structured without becoming another source of pressure.
